CORN SEED BREEDING DEPARTMENT

The main objective of the Corn Seed Breeding Laboratory is to produce corn hybrid seeds and ensure a high competitive level of varietal and sowing characteristics of seeds. This task is performed by the best professionals in the sector in the following directions:

1.Studying and accelerated reproduction of the original parental forms of promising hybrids, including obtaining the second harvest within the annual cycle in the winter nursery garden;

2.Provision of a full cycle of inbreeded lines seed production and corn parental form hybrids;

3.Monitoring of varietal characteristics of each batch of seeds produced by a soil control method in nursery gardens in Ukraine and in the winter nursery garden in Chile for the timely adoption of measures for quality improvement;

4.Development of new techniques in seed production to increase its profitability and reduce the product’s price for end consumers;

5.Constant monitoring of all varietal corn seeding in Stepna Agricultural Corporation and formation of high varietal seed characteristics;

6.Carrying out the high quality harvesting of seed yield and its postharvest processing at seed factories using up-to-date technologies;

7.Certification of a new seed harvest.

The Corn Seed Breeding Laboratory will cultivate and produce parental forms of over twenty hybrids recommended for usage in production. Besides it is engaged in seed production of promising corn hybrids.

Expertize of the Institute employees allows cultivating more than eighty different batches of seeds with the highest uniformity on a total area of 4.8 – 5.5 thousands of hectares annually.

Highly competitive sowing qualities of seeds are provided with special harvesting by means of BOURGOIN combine harvester and their postharvest processing at the contemporary seed factory equipped by CIMBRIA.

Stepova Agricultural Corporation has also launched a specialized plant, unique in Ukraine, with high-quality drying of seed spikes, further material sorting, threshing, cleaning, calibration and treatment on an easily cleaned line. 

An intellectual basis of the Corn Breeding Laboratory and the Corn Seed Breeding Laboratory constitute authoritative scientists and the best experts in the sector.
